Both the Mustang Mach-E and the EX90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Mustang Mach-E 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the EX90. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the EX90 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 10 times as many Ford dealers as there are Volvo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang Mach-E’s warranty.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Mustang Mach-E’s reliability 30 points higher than the EX90.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. With 65 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Ford higher than Volvo.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Ford vehicles are more reliable than Volvo With 34 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Ford higher than Volvo.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Ford vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Ford 4 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

The Mustang Mach-E GT handles at .92 G’s, while the EX90 Ultra Twin Motor Performance pulls only .86 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Mustang Mach-E’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the EX90’s (38.1 feet vs. 38.7 feet).

Chassis

The Ford Mustang Mach-E may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 to 1150 pounds less than the Volvo EX90.

The Mustang Mach-E Select/Premium is 1 foot shorter than the EX90, making the Mustang Mach-E easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Mustang Mach-E has 2.4 inches more front legroom and 1.6 inches more rear legroom than the EX90.

Cargo Capacity

The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume than the EX90 with its rear seat up (29.7 vs. 13.3 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Mustang Mach-E’s exterior PIN entry system. The EX90 doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its Volvo On Call can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Mustang Mach-E’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the EX90’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

The Mustang Mach-E’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The EX90’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Ford Mustang Mach-E, based on reliability, safety and performance.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Mustang Mach-E as the 2021 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The EX90 has never been chosen.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E outsold the Volvo EX90/XC90 by 28% during 2025.
